The Living Room

by Michael Keeling

One day they will have seen
the living room
where I’ll have been.
The empty chair
where I’ll have sat,
the footstool
and the this and that.
The television
I’ll have watched
whilst knocking back
a tot of scotch.
The pictures
I’ll have bought at sales
of sheep and trees
and hills and dales.
They will have gone away and said
a living room is never dead.
