Migraine

by Angela Prew

Who brought that cleaver,
blunt- edged,
crashing into my skull?
Thick shards of shell,

A smooth, rounded
ostrich egg, hammered;
its soft yolk,
turned to jelly,
drying in the fierce heat
of the midday sun.
