Leaving the Library

by Pam Newham

Leaving the library with Mary Goddard’s essays
found on the sale table
the sun out shining through the drops
showering down from the milkwoods
the air filled with deep-voiced jazz
from a boom box
I felt something
(I know it’s ridiculous)
I felt something close to bliss.
