Numerical Holiday

by Annette Snyckers

Ten toes in the sun,
nine days left
to listen to the sea,
eight books
on the bedside table,
seven shells
on the window sill,
six blue towels
limp on the line,
five cups
on the breakfast table,
four mousebirds flutter
in the fynbos,
three waves like lace
upon the beach,
two gulls gliding high,
one small house
under a summer sky.
Zero worries.
