Woman of the Ice Age

From caves of ice
undertones of snow
tribes of skin

the first woman
carved from a mammoth bone
she becomes

sturdy as bison of the chase
streamlined as fleets of swimming deer
slender as flocks of flying geese

she is matrix
icon
amulet

the womb of our daughters
she stretches and contracts through time
reborn when you see her.
