Spirited

by Cornelia Rohde

She eats gossamer dosas
with fingers, dresses in
signature black, except red
for flamenco, piles filigree
tortoise shell combs in her hair,
and jewels when she hitches
a truck to Ladakh.
She likes MIA and Nina Simone,
dark men who laugh
straight from the belly,
and those who don’t
mess with her choices.
